College Campus

College Campus

The College campus has enough space and a layout plan for the construction of new structures necessary for the academic growth of the institution. In total there are six blocks in the college. The main building has 18 classrooms, offices for NCC, NSS and medical aid centre. Twenty separate departments including BBA and BCA function in this block. A beautiful dome at the top of main building adds a feather to the beautification of the institution. The back of the main building has a separate canteen for the students. The Earth Sciences block has two departments – Geography and Geology, having separate and well equipped laboratories with internet facility. A spacious lawn in front of the block enhances the scenic beauty of the college. The science block has three departments of Physics, Chemistry and Electronics. All these departments have separate well equipped laboratories with modern hi-tech facilities and well furnished class rooms. The college has a separate hall for indoor activities with the seating capacity of 300 and very a big auditorium with all the modern facilities is nearing completion.

The Principal, the administrative head of the institute has his office in a separate building known as the Administrative Block. This block is situated on the left side of the main building. The 'Open Book' shaped college library has at present a collection of about 62,000 books. There is a reading room attached to the college library. About 100 different magazines, newspapers and journals are subscribed by the college. The college library is very well equipped with the facilities like INFLIB-NET,E-Journals,Xerox copier, internet facility available for the convenience of staff and students. Recently the college has beautified the front garden with 30 garden benches adding to the aroma besides providing sitting space to the students. The college functions to impart education to a maximum number of students.

Girl's Common Room

A fully furnished Girls Common Room has been erected in the college premises keeping in view the requirements of female students. This common room provides various facilities like magazines, newspapers,water coolers, washrooms, indoor games and also a full time female attendant as care taker.

Boys Hostel

College has the Boys Hostel for 125 students. A Girl Hostel is also under construction. In the process of Admission to the Hostel, preference is given to the meritorious students candidates coming from the far-flung areas and those belonging to SC/ST, Backward Classes. The hostel is under supervision of Warden who is a Sr. Staff Member of the College. Students desires of admission in the Hostel must apply on proper Application from which can be procured from the Hostel Warden. The Applications are properly scrutinized and in sequence, the candidates are interviewed by the Hostel Admission Committee and selection is done on merit basis.

Hostel Rules

  1. The hostel gates are open from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm in summer and form 6:00 am to 9:00 pm in winter. Gates should not be open in night except in the case of an emergency. No. boarder shall be allowed to move out after the attendance at night
  2. Application for leave shall be submitted to the Warden in personal, if possible. The boarders who are absent without prior permission are liable to e expelled from the Hostel. Any boarder staying away for the whole night without permission shall be fined Rs. 100/- for the first offence.
  3. If the offence is repeated, fine shall be doubled. In case he/she repeats the offence a third time, he/she is liable to face disciplinary action which may include expulsion from the hostel.
  4. No guests/relatives are allowed to reside in the hostel premises. Visitors are not allowed to enter the hostel rooms. They are allowed only in the visitors’ lounge.
  5. The hoteliers are responsible for the safety of their own belongings. During vacations and when on long leave they shall remove all personal property from the premises of the hostel. In case of Disobedience of rules, fine may be imposed and such articles may be confiscated.
  6. The hostel authority shall not be responsible for the loss or theft of any cash or valuables kept in the rooms of the boarders.
  7. Religious and political meetings are not allowed inside the boarding house. No boarder is allowed to observe any religious ceremony even in his own room which may injure the felling of the other boarders
  8. No vehicle is allowed within the premises of the hostel.
  9. Playing outdoor games in the hostel quadrangle is prohibited
  10. Ragging in the hostel is strictly prohibited. Any student of the hostel indulging in ragging is liable to be expelled from the hostel.
  11. If a hostelier is asked to vacate the hostel room on disciplinary or administrative grounds,he shall have to do so immediately, failing which the warden shall have the right to break/open the room and remove his belongings.
  12. Any refundable dues shall be released only after all due payments have been made by a boarder. The claim for all such refunds should be made within one year from the date of leaving the hostel.
  13. Resident students will be required to give receipt for items of the furniture and other things issued to them. They will be, responsible for any damage to the doors, the window glass panes, the furniture, the fittings and any other hostel property in the room. While leaving the hostel at the end of the term every student should handover the charge of furniture of his room to the hostel warden.
  14. Mess charge must be cleared by 10th of each month failing which the hostelier will have to pay a fine of Rs. 10/-per day.
  15. The College authorities reserve the right to alter, amend and modify any of the existing rules without prior notice. Decision of the principal/Hostel Committee in all matters shall be final and binding upon the hosteliers.

Detail of Students provided accommodation

  1. Every stud ent on being admitted shall be issued an Identity Card cum Library Card which he/she will carry on his/her person at all times and shall produce on demand by any member of the college staff anywhere in the College premises.
  2. The loss of the Identity Card should be reported immediately.
  3. A new Identity Card shall not ordinarily be issued. However, after proper verification a duplicate card may be issued.
  4. Identity card cum Library Card must be returned at the end of each session failing which an amount of Rs. 100/- shall be charged.

Career Counselling

A Centre for Placement, Career Counselling and Information has been opened in the College to help the students in identifying and pursing their career and adopting a vocation for their gainful employment in private/ public sector. The centre contributes in mitigating the difficulties of the students in choosing the subjects at the time of admission in the College. It organizes placements under UDAAN programs in collaboration with Dean, Student Placement, University of Jammu.

The Centre guides students for opting of careers of their choice. Moreover it provides coaching for different competitive examination like Civil Services, NET, SLET etc. to needy students with greater focus on students belonging to reserved categories. Maximum strength of each group is 25. These classes are conducted after college hours. The cell also conducts mock tests and interviews to hone the competitive skills of the young learners in diverse subjects with the help of expertise of eminent Resource persons. Remedial classes are also conducted for slow learners especially, those from weaker sections to improve their study skills.

Red Ribbon Club is running in the college spreading the message of healthy life style. It educates the masses against ill effects of AIDS and also educates about the remedial measures.
